Keeping Stock of Energy
The stagnant development of cost-effective energy storage technology presents the biggest roadblock on our path towards a sustainable energy future. The three-day Croucher Advanced Study Institute on Frontiers in Energy Storage was co-organized by the IAS and the HKUST Energy Institute and sponsored by the Croucher Foundation.
Covering topics such as alkali metal-ion batteries, flow batteries, and nanomaterials for energy, the meeting proposed solutions to the challenges facing two key technologies: high energy-density storage for mobile applications and cost-effective storage for grid-scale applications. Both will be essential if renewable resources are to contribute a major share to the future energy mix.
