IAS Senior Visiting Fellow Awarded HKUST Honorary Degree

At HKUST's 24th Congregation last November, Prof Kam-Biu Luk, lAS Senior Visiting Fellow, from the University of California at Berkeley was conferred an honorary degree (Doctor of Science honoris causa) in recognition of his outstanding achievements.

In 2002, Luk conceived an experiment to explore neutrino oscillation that led to the first impactful mega Sino-American scientific research collaboration based in China—a project involving over 200 scientists from more than 35 institutions in six countries and regions, including Hong Kong. He has since received the 2014 W K H Panofsky Prize from the American Physical Society and the 2016 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the far-reaching attainments of this work.
